To Configure Tata Photon Plus in Ubuntu

Steps to configure Tata Photon Plus (model: EC1260) in Ubuntu:

Install the deb packages below:
1) libuniconf4.4_4.4.1-1.1_i386.deb
2) libwvstreams4.4-base_4.4.1-1.1_i386.deb
3) libwvstreams4.4-extras_4.4.1-1.1_i386.deb
4) libxplc0.3.13_0.3.13-1_i386.deb
5) wvdial_1.60.1_i386.deb

• Connect the USB device.

• Open terminal (Application > Accessories> Terminal)

• On the terminal, type

sudo wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
This will detect and install the modem.

• After installation, type
sudo gedit /etc/wvdial.conf
This will open the configuration file for editing.

• Delete the semi column (;) before the last three lines, i.e. phone, username & password.

• Modify the following details in the configuration file:
phone = #777
username = internet
password = internet
stupid mode = 1

• Save the file and exit.

• Now again go to the terminal and type the following to connect to internet.
sudo wvdial

• Leave the terminal as it is. Then open the browser and start browsing.

• If not able to browse, open the terminal again and type
sudo p –f /etc/ppp/resolv.conf /etc/
It will again ask for information to overwrite. Type ‘Y’ to overwrite.

• To end the internet session, close the terminal or press ‘Ctrl + C’ on the terminal.
